Peripherals
There are many peripheral devices that can be used in a computer - the main ones being printers and scanners. Peripherals are devices which can either put information onto a computer, or extract information from the computer. They're divided into two groups, input devices and output devices. There are a few exceptional devices that can be both input and output devices, for example, touchscreens.
Printer (Output Device)
Printers are commonly used in our every-day life, we see in the picture that printers can be used for a variety of things - ranging from it's main purpose, printing, to scanning also. It's vital to a computer system as some documents are a vitality and are needed to be printed, therefore this device can perform that task in either A4 or A3 form.
Monitor (Output Device)
Monitors are crucial as part of a Computer System because they allow the user to visually be able to comprehend what they're doing, without a visual device such as a Monitor or Projector, a user would be unable to view what they're doing. Many people use Monitors, one will be shown below, alongside the connections that are used with it.
Plotter (Output Device)
Plotters are a form of computer printer often used for printing vector graphics. However it is not only used in the geographical sector, it is important to a Computer System because an individual who is an architect may use this equipment to print off pictures of buildings, not only this but it is also used to print off the design structures of ships and planes today. It draws an image on paper using a pen. This is extremely important to businesses and their Computer Systems
Camera (Input Device)
Cameras are used by the majority of the computer-using community. They're not mainly used in regards to computer-wise however they do have the majority of features that are used via the computer. Firstly, as we can see they have a USB connector which allows the photos to be imported, this makes Cameras important to computer systems as they allow the user to view their photos enlarged and print them off if they want. Not only this, but some cameras have the option to charge via this USB port via the computer.
Scanner (Input Device)
Scanners are crucial to Computer Systems as they allow the user to project an image from a sheet onto the computer, this could allow them to make extra copies, but also keep it is data to be stored on the computer. This is important for a Computer System as it allows the individual to keep certain sheets and items saved electronically as well as physically.
Coaxial Cables (Input Device)
The coaxial cable is a cable in which is used to transmit video, communications and also audio. The coaxial cable has a moderately high bandwidth and also a greater transmission capacity. The coaxial cable is not only used in the computing industry, but also the television industry. In terms of Computing, it is used for Ethernet. It is more expensive than wires that telephones use, however it can carry an awful lot more data and has a lesser chance of interference. A picture of this cable is shown below. This cable is important to a computer system because anyone who is using Ethernet will find this important to gain internet access, without this they will find significant difficulty establishing a connection unless wireless is available.
Twisted Pair Cable (Input Device)
A twisted pair cable is created by binding two insulated wires together. However we must clarify that there are two different types of twisted pairs, these are 'Unshielded' and 'Shielded'. The difference is quite simple, the Shielded twisted pair has a mesh wire (Look in the picture below to see a clear visual image of this) which surrounds the whole wire in order to protect the transmissions, however the Unshielded twisted pair does not.
